Ok, so I wrote this big long word post about Daredevil, how he was my introduction to comics. My favorite issue. Blahblahblah. It was really long and boring, and no one would read it any way, so I scrapped it.
But! I want to talk about the first issue of Daredevil that came out today (No spoilers, promise), even though once again I’m aware that hardly anyone will read this. I just want to talk about how pleased I am about it. I mean, I haven’t been this jazzed about a comic in a long time. Maybe it was because I was a little unsure at the start (a smiling Matt? What) but it was SO GOOD. And it was nice to see Matt have a comic and be interesting without having to go such a dark place. And there weren’t any ladies thrown in fridges (I know it’s early, but still…)!
I thought it would be hard to like this series, because I like Daredevil when it’s angsty, dark, and sometimes even emotionally draining. I don’t like how writers have dealt with women overall, but I still enjoy the comics. I enjoy reading about Matt.
Sometimes I frankly forget how much I like the Daredevil series, how much I like Matt Murdock and the people that he’s involved with. It was nice to be reminded that Daredevil is one of the series that I am the most invested in, and even nicer that a single issue on a new run could make me so happy and interested.
If you didn’t pick up the new issue and you’re a Daredevil fan, hell, even if you aren’t, do it. You might not like it as much as I do, but it’s worth it for the artwork alone.
I’m so excited for this series, you don’t even know. Here’s hoping the following issues are just as good as this.
