daredevil #191 is the roulette issue and it’s probably on of the best issues miller ever wrote. like, i tend to disagree with the common idea that frank miller’s dd is the best, but that issue is tops.
Yeah, the collective circle jerk over Miller’s DD is a bit much for me too. (Like, people try to pretend that Miller’s ish somehow started after DD, when really it’s always been there he just used to be a better writer so people got over it?). But even aside from that I GET why it’s iconic (it completely changed Matt as a character, and I have to admit that Born Again with a lot of help from Mazzucchelli is a pretty fantastic story even with it’s problems). I have some partialness to it b/c it was my first venture into DD, but it has its problems and I get sick of people pretending like it’s the end all be all of Daredevil.
But yeah Roulette is so good. And ACTUALLY it inadvertently lead to one of the few times I’ve been unhappy with Ellis’s writing. When he redid the Roulette scene in Thunderbolts he made Matt’s inner narration into a monologue. Which… isn’t how it was!

Yeah I just. This on top of people having a panel of Matt and Foggy and tagging it as a sign of MATT/PETER OMG THIS SHIP. Like.
I really mean it when I think that Matt/Peter are fine! They’re good friends, they have a nice chemistry and thinking they should make out is a-ok by me. But it’s NOT ok with me to ignore Foggy Nelson and I legit don’t understand how you can read any Daredevil comics (even just Waid’s run— we had an entire issue that was just Matt & Foggy goodness!) and pretend that Matt would turn to anyone else with this sort of problem. It’s what’s making this arc so good/devastating, that Matt has NO ONE ELSE TO TURN TO because the only one that he trusts with all of him is Foggy and Foggy is at the very core of the conflict! IT’S UPSETTING! IT’S REALLY SIMPLE?
But people are like oh poor Matt!!!!! Where is Peter call up Peter!!!!! And no. No. NO. That wouldn’t happen.
And ok I’m sorry but you can’t convince me that more people would be onto the Matt/Foggy marrieds train if Foggy were a thin dude like. That is ALSO frustrating to me, and maybe why I’m even more defensive. Not shipping Matt/Foggy is a w/e thing (sometimes I think I do it defensively, but sometimes I read these panels and I’m just like. I don’t even want you to bone I just want you guys to grow old and maybe realize that you are EVERYTHING to each other and hold hands and look at the sunset while having sweet kisses idk.)

Same. Like, seeing Elektra would be neat (and is a possibility since she’s going to be in T-Bolts soon), and of course there’s never too much Natasha in the 616, but.
The fuckery Brubaker pulled with Milla was just… pretty fucking awful. And it would be nice if we could see her recover from that.
I’d like for one of Matt’s old flames (of the ones that weren’t superheroes) to actually get to be ok.

Like. I guess the idea is that FANDOM is giving Bucky that mantle— he’s nice so he deserves her!!! Which I. Haven’t seen? Like, A) Bucky isn’t perfect and pretending he is detrimental but B) I actually haven’t seen anyone say that Clint is a bad guy? Even people criticizing the Clintasha ship?
I’m not going to pretend that every person in the fandom is perfect because I’m sure they’re not. I’m sure there are people that suck, although thankfully I haven’t had to spend much time with them.

Relationships should never be about ~deserving one another. It’s about wanting one another, loving one another. If either one STOPS, then it’s time for the ship to go to the wayside. But as it stands, these are two people who love and care about each other, and the fact that this post completely ignores NATASHA’s feelings for Bucky (this is not… a one-sided relationship?) is… well, to be frank, kind of fucked up.

no look i have to admit i like fraction too. tho possibly not in the way you do bc i have never seen the dude, but he is hit a lot more than miss for me & okay yes some of what he writes is rubbish but i don’t get people ragging on him all the time??
Yeah, I mean. Part of my attraction to Fraction (which is fun to say), I’ll admit is due to the fact that most of the comic writers are… not at all hot. So when one IS hot (to me, I should clarify!) I feel the need to highlight it!
And yeah. I mean I get that most people who are fans of Tony loathe his run. And that’s totally reasonable! (I can’t speak to it b/c I don’t care about Tony Stark and thus don’t bother with IIM!), but I do think that he can be a good writer. I think Defenders was a romp (RIP) and the first issue of Hawkeye was like a breath of fresh air. I don’t think he’s a hack, and I think writing off writers (especially in comics) is a tricky thing. Because MOST of my faves have written… really shit things! And if that was all I read by them I would think they’re hacks but they’re definitely not.
Plus I don’t know. He just seems like a pretty cool dude! And at a panel in Heroes he even checked his own privilege as a straight white dude! Which is WAY more than most comic writers.
I mean, basically disliking him for IIM is fine. (Also Fear Itself, but, I mean that has WAY more editorial sway and lbr here almost all events esp. at Marvel have been terribad). Or, really, disliking any of his series that you didn’t like for whatever reason is reasonable, w/e. But, like, pretending he’s the worst guy in the world/the worst writer at Marvel is sort of… silly, I think.

But, like, the post seems to be throwing disdain towards the Loki problem, talking about how annoyed they are going to be when people on tumblr are talking about how The Winter Soldier is misunderstood.
But. Like. It’s not a case of his actions being misunderstood because Bucky is literally not in control of his own actions.

They probably won’t touch Daredevil all that much, but I want Punisher to be safe. And I don’t want them to fuck up Hope!
If I remember right they said nothing would change with DD unless the creative team wanted a ~directional change. Which was weird because with X-Factor they just said that nothing would really change. So idk. I doubt anything would change too much, regardless.
Wrt Punisher, I still stand by the fact that we’re having a HUGE event with him coming up, so I’d bet he’s safe (why have a crossover with a book that’s going to be canned anyway?)
But with Hope idek. Like, have we seen where her or any of the ~Phoenix Five are post AvX? (Scott Summers will be in All New X-Men, but it’s his Silver Age self, right?)
